We did a 4 day road trip taking in waterfalls, museums and other attractions from Hurley to Marquette to Mackinaw. Love learning about areas and museums. The best part of this place is its free. The gift shop is half the building/museum and that may explain it. There were lots if great reviews on line so i expected more. Nothing really hands on for younger kids. A movie to watch and alot to read if you like. Staff person was friendly n very knowledgeable. If you wander to restrooms they have hand scrubs made by locals to try out
But let's face it: This place was primarily sponsored by the Pictured Rocks Cruises & Pictured Rocks Kayaking, and the video and gift shop feels like a big commercial for these companies.
The Pictured Rocks Interpretive Center is a MUST SEE if you're in Munising!! It's free and is open late! (well, 8pm..) The exhibit provides background on the Pictured Rocks lakeshore, Munising, Native Americans, and the fishing and logging industries in their heyday. There is also a beautifully shot 10-minute video and a gift shop.
