The fall color should be the highlight in this park. The Chapel Falls hiking trail that leads to the lake shore is well maintained. It took less 1.5 hours to see that famous chapel rock. The wind could be strong at the beach so take a jacket if hiking in the winder.
One of my favorite north Michigan spots to visit. Lots of outdoor entertainment to choose from. You can camp in lots or backpack camp on some of the trails. Munising is close by which has good lodging for those who like to stay in a hotel and there are a few good places to eat there. The views are breath taking and if you do a boat ride you really get to see stuff you normally wouldn’t see from the ground. Lots of pull offs and parking. Many waterfalls that are a must see! Take the time to stop at the Dnr office and grab a map! They are very helpful and will circle some must see places.
Why would any one rate this place less than 5 stars !! It is an awesome place if you love nature. If you don't, this is not the right place for you. You can spend a whole day just looking at those beautiful shore line , the natural caves or just majestic lake superior. Renting a canoe is the best to get a closer look. If you have limitations using a canoe, go for the cruise.
Ultimate and amazing place. Trekking is the best here and has mind-blowing views. Best place for photographers and trekkers. Quite difficult to walk through the woods, but there's a path.
Pictured Rocks is well worth a trip. The views of Lake Superior's clear blue waters and the sandstone cliffs are absolutely gorgeous of course, but we were surprised by the sheer number of different mushrooms and fungus that was growing along the trails. My husband and I hiked the Chapel Loop in the Chapel Basin/Mosquito Falls Area, which ended up being about 8 miles for the route we took. During our early September visit, many parts of the trail were impassable due to mud . Previous hikers (or park staff) had laid down boards and small tree trunks in some areas, but hikers need to go off trail to bypass the mud in other areas. Wear waterproof hiking boots that you don't mind getting really dirty.
